News Outlook Your Hometown Newspaper April 18, 2013 - 19 Baseball: The Me- nifee County High School baseball team fielded a young squad throughout the 2012 sea- son, which ended with the Wildcats going 1-24. The good news for the Menifee County base- ball squad is that several experienced players are back for the 2012 sea- son. Menifee County, which competes in the 61st District along with reigning champion Fleming County, Rowan County and Bath Coun- ty, didn't have any se- niors on last year's team. 2013 Menifee Softball Roster 2 1 Marissa ab- ney OF/IF Fr. 7 Ailee Lawson 2B/SS So. Courtney RoE- Menifee County baseball program. He replaced Tim Adams following the 2010 Kentucky high school baseball season. Softball: The Menifee County High School softball team is poised to push Fleming County High School for the top spot in the 61st District. Menifee County ended the 2012 season 16-11. The Lady Cats compiled the winning record un- der the guidance of head coach Kevin Hale, Junior pitcher Erika Brewer is back to work from the circle for the Menifee County softball team. Brewer thrived throughout the 2012 sea- son, registering nearly 300 strikeouts. The Me- nifee County pitcher av- eraged 12.34 strikeouts per game, which was eighth-best in the state. Menifee County fea- tures several experi- enced players, some of whom are still under- classmen. Other experienced players back for the Lady Cats are freshman catcher Elizabeth Dot- son, sophomore second baseman Allie Lawson and sophomore short- stop Allie Heaton senior center fielder Paige Warren and senior out- fielder Haley Lane, all of whom will play key roles throughout the 2013 campaign. Warren is back on the Menifee County softball roster after sitting out the 2012 season to con- centrate on basketball. As of early-April, the Menifee County track and field program hadn't debuted in the 2013 sea- son. Menifee County senior Drew Swartz advanced to the KHSAA Class A State Meet during his junior season. Swartz represented Menifee County well, finishing 14th in the Boys' 400 Meter Dash. Menifee County com- petes in Class A, Region 7, which also features Allen Central, Betsy Layne, Buckhorn, Cor- dia, David School, Elliott County, Fairview, Haz- ard, Jackson, Jenkins, June Buchanan, Lee County, Owsley Coun- ty, Paintsville, Phelps, Piarit, PikeviUe, Race- land, Riverside Chris- tian, Rose Hill, Shelby Valley, South Floyd and Wolfe County.
