News Outlook
May 27, 2021 - 5
Every May for the past 11
years, the Friends of Cave
Run Association has hosted
an annual fishing tourna-
ment to honor the memory
of friends of the fishing com-
munity. In addition to being
a unique memorial oppor-
tunity, the tournament also
supports future generations
of Morehead State University
students.
The tournament organiz-
ers partnered with the MSU
Foundation to create an en-
dowment that will provide a
lasting legacy through schol-
arship support. The Friends
of Cave Run Association
donates the tournament pro—
ceeds each year to grow the
endowment.
The 2021 tournament took
place on May 22 and 23. They
hosted 90 boats and proceeds
from this year’s tournament
will be used to grow the en-
dowment to the $50,000 level.
Stokley’s Marine, a boat and
boat supply business based in
Nicholasville, also generously
provides an annual contribu-
tion to fund five annual schol-
arships so the association can
focus on endowment growth.
"The Friends of Cave Run
Association look at this as
more than just a fishing tour-
nament. They look at this
as preserving a legacy and
honoring friends who meant
so much to them," said Jessi
Ferguson, MSU Foundation
staff and Friends of Cave Run
Scholarship liaison. “They
are a dedicated group of guys
who are supporting future
generations of students from
our region.”
Annual scholarship sup-
port is provided to students
attending MSU. Recipients
of the scholarship must be in-
coming MSU freshmen who
are residents of Rowan, Bath,
Menifee, Morgan or Mont-
gomery counties. Students
must have maintained a high
school GPA of 3.0 or above.
