News Outlook vvwvvvvv June 10, 2021 5 On Tuesday Gov. Andy Beshear officially an- nounced the launch of Op— eration Gateway Kentucky Innovative . Readiness Training (IRT) Medical Mission, a service opera- tion in five Eastern Ken- tucky counties to provide free, general medical, den- tal and optometry services to approximately 1,800 un- insured or underinsured Kentuckians. “Health care is a basic human right,” said Gov. Beshear. “Our administra— tion is committed to pro- viding better health care in all corners of the com- monwealth, and this mis— sion will help us reach that goal. Eastern Kentuckians should sign up for these no—cost medical services, which will help our people live longer, healthier lives.” Sponsored by the De- partment of Defense (DOD) and the Gateway Area Development Dis- trict (GADD) and using $138,000 from the Appala- chian Regional Commis- sion (ARC), a group of military medical profes- sionals will operate health clinics in Bath, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan and Rowan counties roughly between July 10 and July 21 of this year. Services of- fered to Kentuckians in the region will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. “We are grateful that The Bath County Repub- lican Party will hold a spe- cial county—wide meeting on Tuesday, June 15, at 6 pm. DLG Commissioner Den- nis Keene explained the importance of this work. “Providing quality health care in this region could mean the differ- ence in leading healthier, safer lives for thousands of Eastern Kentuckians,” said Commissioner Keene. “We are grateful for the partnership with the De- partment of Defense, ARC and Gateway ADD in sup- porting this medical ser- vice mission.” “The deployment of Op- eration Gateway Kentucky is an extraordinary oppor- tunity for the citizens of Bath County.
