The Bath County High School Solar Cats are competing this week in the 2021
Solar Car Challenge at Texas Motor Speedé
way in Fort Worth, Texas. This marks the second time that the Solar Cats
have competed in the Solar Car Challenge. In
20! 9, their first time competing in the event, they took home 4th place
for the Classic Division and the Bill Engel Award
for most beautiful car.
The Solar Car Challenge started in 1993 and hosts teams from all over the
country to build,
test, and challenge one another in both glosed-t ‘c d" :road

education.
The Solar Cats this year fielded the “Appalachian Spirit." They
passed intense pro-race
“scrutineering” of their car on the first day, and according to
unofficial race results, they'
are leading the Classic Division on the third day racing with 133 laps, I
'l more laps than
their closest competitor, North Tampa Christian Academy.
This year’s Team Captains are Maynard Reinhardt and Dakota Davis, and
team members
are Devin Matthews, Samuel Bodine, Miles Saunders, Stacy Bonot, Noah
Rogers, and Jor-
dan Tuttle.
The team coaches are teachers Brian Coleman and Ricky Prater.
