Locall THE BATH COUNTY NEWS-OUTLOOK Owingsville, Ky.--Week of July 24 -July 31, 2003 II |12 State degrees - These students recently earned State FFA degrees at the FFA con- vention. Pictured are: Dustin Bailey, Jeremy Skaggs, Marty Short, Sarah Workman, Josh McDermott, Greg Fox, and Mark Zornes. Some of these students will go on and apply for the American FFA Degree. Delbert Marshall highly decorated veteran Delbert Reffitt was born August 16, 1920, the son of Cyril and Lillie McCarty Reffitt at Salt Lick, Kentucky. He attended school at White Sulpher. At age 20, he went to work for C&O Railroad. At the age of 21 he married his wife, Mary Margaret (Crouch) Reffitt on January 24, 1942, at Owingsville, Kentucky. They have been married for 61 years. Delbert served in the Army from November 25, 1942, to November 30, 1945. He served in the campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He received the European African, Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon (with 5 Bronze Stars and Bronze Arrow Head) Good Conduct Metal, Croix-de- Guerre with Palm Meritorious unit Citation CO 226 and W.W. II Victory Metal. He was honor- ably discharged November 30, 1945. After the war, he returned to Salt Lick, Kentucky, where he worked construction on pipe lines. In 1950, Delbert moved his family to Middletown, Ohio, and went to work at Armco Steel Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1980. Delbert and his wife, Mary, have lived in Middletown and Hunter (Franklin, Ohio). They have raised 5 children; Nancy Reffitt Mynhier, James, Ray, Cheryl, and Daryl. They also have 9 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. Delbert will be 83 his birthday this year. He still loves to attend any and all ball games, mostly at Armco Park. East Fork news By: Leona W. Goldy The Landsaw family enjoyed last Saturday with most of their children there enjoying the day with their father Clifford I.andsaw who was home for the day from the nursing home. A bountiful dinner was served. Sunday school attendance was 58. Mark E. Hall enjoyed a bountiful supper Friday night given by his aunt Brenda Jane Goldy. His fami- ly members attended. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Routt visited Mary Routt Sunday. Arthur Buckler was given a cookout Friday night for his birth- day by his wife Carolyn. Family members attended. Mrs. David (Tonya) Shrout cele- brated her birthday July 8 by enter- laining out for supper by her mom and husband. Richard Day of Florida spent the weekend with his family here. Miss JanJce Anderson and friend Pat spend last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Anderson. Levi Fletcher spent a few days last week with his mom Gall. Jimmy S. Buckler and Randy Manley spent the weekend in Tennessee fishing. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Woodard were bed time guests Saturday night of his cousin Nancy M. Hall and Asa. Mrs Roherta Corbin, of Texas, is spending three weeks with her mother, Mrs. Ina Corbin. Sunday School attendance was 60. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Trent, and Mr. and Mrs. Travis Browning and son, spent the weekend at Smokey Mountains. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Porter and grandchildren, and Mr and Mrs. Glen Boggus and son, spent Saturday with Mrs. Mary Routt. Mrs. Jennifer Buckler, Lisa, and Vickie, spent a few days last week at Smokey Mountains. Mrs. Opal Bailey, Laura, and Linda, enjoyed ice cream and cake Saturday night for Branson Ray Dillon, at his Mom, Lisa's. Mrs. Melissa Royalty and Irene spent Wednesday night with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Routt. Noah Routt visited Jeffie Routt, Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Roussos and Chase, Carolin and Gayle Crouch were luncheon guests last Monday of Mr. and Mrs. Richie Hunt. David Dailey continues to recu- perate from a leg wound. Ray Potts attended the Jones reunion. Barbara Courtney and Ethel Hawkins were visitors of Carolin and Gayle Crouch last week. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bradley spent last weekend in Inez, attending the wedding of his brother, Nathan Bradley. The sick list includes Dorothy Daughtery, Dick Hunt and Edna Hunt. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Roussos and Chase entertained friends from Jackson last weekend. Carotin Crouch entertained Mary Roberts for lunch on Thursday. Bro. and Mrs. Roy Stacy have been busy with their garden. Helen Razor entertained her great-grandson overnight last week. The Bethel community was sad- dened by the death of longtime res- ident, John T. Dicken. Chase Roussos was dedicated at church services at Bethel Christian last Sunday. He is the son of Shannon and Chris Roussos. Artie Williams is a hospital patient, suffering from pneumonia. Tom Watts was a recent visitor of Shannon and Chris Roussos. Dorothy Daughtery, Edna Hunt, and Dick Hunt are recuperating after recent surgeries. Janice Jones and Gayle Crouch enjoyed dinner together, Monday night. in/around Owingsville By: Ada Thornsburg Jennifer Todd and little daughter Anna MicheUe, of Lexington, were guests of Eulene Adams, Saturday. Sue and Bill Bays and Mary Margaret and Brandon, of Louisville, spent last weekend with Mrs. Lillian McNeill. Earl and Marie .Everman, Brenda Davis and Sandy and Candis Prewtt, have returned home after a week's vacation in Orlando, Florida, and Daytona Beach. qhey ,also visited with the Paul Lynam family, of Columbia, South Carolina. Lynsey Raymond, of Jackson, Florida, is spending this week with her grandmother, Mrs. Lillian McNeill. Marjorie Kincaid, Bobby, Jeannie, and Tyler Riddell, spent Sunday with Robert Riddell, of Mt. Sterling, the occasion being the birthday of Robert Riddle, along with other family members. Helen Phillips spent Thursday night with her sister, Betty R. Copher. Mr. Steve Doll, of Troy, Ohio, called on his cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hart, Davis and Tony and Scottye Hart ,Wednesday after- noon. Emily Hart spent Thursday night and Friday with her grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ford Hart and Ricky. Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Whitton, Mr. and Mrs. Omar Heath, Johnny Whitton, Mrs. Annie Adams and family and Mrs. Verna Rogers, attended the Whitton and Whaley reunion at the Bath County Pavilion, Sunday. Mrs. Kate Jackson, Mrs. Dottle Goodpaster, Billy R. Jackson, and Mrs. Dorothy Butcher, had several of their friends down Sunday night They served cake and different kinds of homemade ice cream. They all enjoyed the get-together. Kelly and Imogene Spencer were there. Kelly played the guitar and sang several songs. Mrs. Bobby Vanlandingham called on Scottye Hart,-Sunday afternoon. A community revival at the Owingsville Lions Club Park, from Sunday through Wednesday, from the 20th to the 23rd. Bro. George Martin, from the Slate Valley Christian Church, spoke Sunday night. Several from the Slate Valley Christian attended the services. Track Day fun - During the last week of school, the boys in Ms. Grimes' first-grade class had Track Day fun.
