The Owingsville Wom-
an's Club has available in
time for the 2013 Christ-
mas season its latest com-
memorative ornament,
celebrating the historic
Majestic Theater in Ow-
ingsville.
The Majestic Theater
opened its doors in 1922,
under the ownership of
Edgar T. Denton and John
Richards, in the building
rented from Tom Shrout
and located at the cor-
ner of present day South
Court Street and Slate Av-
enue.
During the "silent"
movie era in the 1920s,
Gladys Young provided
piano accompaniment to
the films, and when "talk-
ies" arrived in 1929, the
owners added a sound
system.
Through the 1940s, the
Majestic was open every
night of the week and on
weekends from 2 p.m. to
midnight. Ticket prices
were five and ten cents.
Edgar Denton's son,
James E. "Jay Joe" Den-
ton, worked in the theater
throughout his child-
hood, and when he re-
turned from military ser-
wce in
he became a full partner
in the business. After his
father's death in 1952, he
became sole owner.

PICKSHEIN NEWS

Here are some .photos
shared by Eddia Mae for
this week:
Lueien Whaley, Loretta Jones, and Della Copher; at
the Senior Citizens Center
My sister Sarah Penix and brother James Shrout, with
his wife Madeline
My little dog, Lulu, in Oct. 1989
I have had many visi-
tors this week - Ron-
nie and Josh Butcher;
Larry Butcher; John
Perkins, who is the
best thing to me, and
he brings me snacks
and bananas; Jim
Hornback; Destil and
Tammy Ray and Josh,
who took me to get my
groceries and some
chicken feed; Connie
Thompson; and Tam-
my Barber.
I have also had many
phone calls from peo-
ple who didn't see The
Pickshein News in the
paper last week - Mae
Butcher, from Flori-
da; Billy Paul Shrout,
from Florida; Johnny
Shrout, from Indiana;
and many others.
I am not through
with putting my pic-
tures in the paper and
telling my life's story,
but right now I have no
way to get anywhere.
I have had many nice
people, who didn't want
to be named, help-
ing me out this week
without pay, like those
who put the tape over
my windows and those
who brought me a tur-i
key dinner, with rolls,
potatoes, cranberry
sauce, dressing, stuff-
ing, green beans, and a
pumpkin pie and apple
pie, and the cool whip
to put on them. God
bless you all!
I am still trying to
sell my lot on Slate Av-
enue in Owingsville. If
you want to buy it in
the next 8 days, I will
sell it for $14,000, that's
82000 less than what I
first offered. If you are
interested, please call
me at 674-9243.
I also have an old
Army trailer for sale, if
anybody is interested.
I need help with put-
ting plastic on my win-
dows for winters, and
if anybody wants to do-
nate lumber and tin to
help me build a sewing
room on my trailer, I
would appreciate it.
