Athletic Notes
by Arlen McNabb, Bath
County Athletic Director
Good evening, every-
one! Temperature-wise,
this August weekend, with
the cool mornings and
comfortable nights ,felt
more like early October. It
was a good weekend to be
outdoors!
The varsity volleyball
team started its regular
season on Tuesday night
with a match against Mor-
gan County at Crossroads
Elementary. In 2012, for
the first time, the KHSAA
allows teams to play a five
set contest, with a team
having to win three of the
five sets to be declared the
match winner. The Lady-
Cats won the first set by
a score of 218 and the
fourth set 25-16. However,
Morgan County won the
match by winning the sec-
ond set (25-21), the third
set (28-26) and the deci-
sive fifth set 15-10. Thus,
the' Cats lost the match by
a score of 2-3. On Thurs-
day, the LadyCats swept
Nicholas County in three
straight sets at home to
pick up their first win of
the season.
In golf action, the Wild-
Cats played in :four match-
es this past week. The 'Cats
played at Powell County
on Saturday and finished
eighth in the ten team
field. Chris Stulll finished
the round in a team best
77, while Darren Carpen-
ter shot a 79. Other scores
included Gage Grimes-91,
Hayden Price-ll3 and Re-
ese Razor's 115.
Our football 'Cats partic-
ipated in the annual EKC
Grid-A-Rama on Saturday
evening at East Carter
High School, with the Mus-
keteers of Greenup Coun-
ty playing the part of op-
ponent for the scrimmage.
The 'Cats struck early with
Taborn Kissick hauling in
a pass from brother Clark
for the games first score.
Caden Messer would kick
the extra-point to put the
WildCats up 7-0. The Mus-
keteers would tie the score
in the second quarter and
take the lead in the third.
However, with less than
three minutes remaining
in the third, Clark Kissick
would hit Brandon Price
on a pass play for his sec-
ond TD pass of the night.
Messer's extra-point knot-
ted the score up at 14.
The fourth quarter was
designated a JV quarter
and the 'Cats, behind sig-
nal caller Zach Horton
moved the ball well. After
a Brandon Price fumble,
the Musketeers moved
the ball into Cat territory.
Senior Joe Snedegar, re-
turning fromoff-season
knee surgery, picked off
a pass to give the Wild-
Cats the ball with just over
two minutes left to play.
The Cats moved the ball
to the Musketeer 22 yard
line to set up a field goal
attempt. The 34 yarder by
freshman Caden Messer
was straight and true and
pushed the 'Cats to a 17-14
victory.
The season starts for
real on Friday night when
the team travels to Flem-
ing County for a 7:30 kick-
off.
The soccer season also
kicks off this week with
both LadyCats and Wild-
Cats playing on Tuesday.
• The Lady Defenders from
Bryan Station will visit the
Bath County Sports Com-
plex to take on our young
LadyCats. The WildCats
will play their first game on
the road at Mason County.
Before I sign off for the
night, I would like to share
with those new to the Dis-
tract a key to understand-
hag the schedule that I in-
clude each week. So, here
